Common Asked Questions
What is Reclaimed wood flooring?
Reclaimed hardwood flooring is made from wood recycled from dismantled barns, factories and other turn-of-the-century buildings that have outlived their usefulness. These material were originally harvested from America’s virgin forest, making it authentic old growth lumber. Old growth wood growth rings are denser and tighter that today lumber.
Why is there such a price difference between new wood and reclaimed wood?
New wood is not comparable in quality to old growth wood. The process of reclaimed antique timber is also very labor intensive and the labor and technology needed to rescue and convert the antique wood is profound.
What is solid flooring?
Solid flooring is exactly what it sounds like – the same solid board all the way through each plank. A solid floor can be re-sanded and re-finished several times although how often to re-sand is depending on wear on flooring and your level of taste.
What is engineered flooring?
Glued and layered under high pressure and heat, our engineered flooring boards are composed of a 4mm wear layer set on top of a 7ply Baltic Birch plywood. This surface has as much sandibility as the solid and can be re-sanded and re-finished a few times. The 4 mm of a engineered board is the same as the 4mm of a solid. It’s the Birch backing that gives the engineered the stability and versatility that allows it to be installed in conditions that the solid cannot (concrete slabs for instance). Since both solid and engineered share the same hardwood top layer, they are identical once installed. Each can be installed either unfinished for a site finish or prefinished here ready to install once delivered.
Will wider boards cup, crown or wrap over time?
Wood acclimation and instillation are the two most important things to ensure your floor lasts a lifetime. Our flooring is properly kiln dried to 8-10% moisture content before delivery which eliminates the tendency for warping and cupping. Whatever type of humidity control that you have should be in proper working condition prior to installation to provide a constant environment for your floor. Acclimation of the product in the area where it will be installed for a minimum of 5-8 days is strongly recommended.
When can I expect delivery?
Lead time varies depending on product quantity, custom specifications and species availability. Solid wood flooring with no finish applied typically take 4 weeks. Approximate
